HOW TO EXPLORE CHRISTIANITY
FOR YOURSELF

Time on your hands? You could watch box sets, learn Vietnamese cookery, relay the patio, improve your Spanish ...

Or you could also check out your position on some of the biggest questions in life.

man thinking

Where do we come from? Where are we going? Is there a God? If there is, what does he/she/it/they think of me?

What's life for anyway? Does it have a significant purpose or is it a meaningless cul de sac in the universe? How do I know if I'm a good/successful/satisfied/honourable person or not?

If you have easy, confident, well-thought-out answers to all these questions - fair enough!

But if not (and most people don't!) maybe ask yourself...

Will there ever be a better time in my life to spend some time looking at all these big questions?

HOW DO YOU DO THAT?

Everybody's different, so we've sorted out five directions you could go.

ROUTE 1 THE BIG ISSUES: WHAT PEOPLE SAY

Looking at some of the things people most often say about Christianity. We've picked five of the top comments you hear in the pub and down the shop. Click on any of them that interest you, and you'll get our take on that issue, other questions that you might want to mull over, and clickable content that will take you straight to some of the best web resources on that question. After you're done, you can even vote on what you think of our answer!  Click here to start this option.

ROUTE 2 PRAYER FOR ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS

A more hands-on approach. Learn how to pray and why you should. Since the start of the pandemic, Google searches for "prayer" and "how to pray" have gone through the roof. Not surprising, but if you're keen to find out whether prayer works or not, who can pray, and how you do it, we have a short guide that will get you started. Click here to start this option.

ROUTE 3 SCIENCE AND GOD

We've given this its own separate section because, for many people, it's the real biggie. Christianity is so unscientific... Isn't it? Miracles, creation, conversion experiences, and all the rest of it. When Dan Walker got his job on breakfast TV, the Guardian asked whether he could be trusted to report facts correctly... because he was a Christian and therefore believed all sorts of rubbish. Were they right? If you're interested in the scientific questions, probe them here.  Click here to start this option.

ROUTE 4  WHAT'S HAPPENING TO PEOPLE RIGHT NOW

Richard Dawkins thinks people become Christians because of their culture and family background. And that's it. Is he right, or do ordinary people in the real world genuinely find God for themselves? We've put together a few stories just as a snapshot sample to examine: a Premiership footballer, a leading scientist, a heavy metal hero, a distinguished young academic, even a former Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan.  Some male, some female; some British, some not; some on video, some in their own words.  Click here to start this option.

ROUTE 5 HOW DO I GET STARTED?

This is the direction to take if (a) you want to discover God personally for yourself (b) you're not sure whether you do or not (c) you can't work out whether you are a Christian already. It tries to give you a few simple steps that will move you on from one stage to the next logical action you could take. It doesn't try to manipulate you or push you or put pressure on you. Any decisions you make have got to be your own!
